Kinnaur Valley Road Status 2024 – 2025


This will remain to be a dedicated post to share updates on Kinnaur Road Status and conditions. As the tourism season progresses, I will continue posting the most recent updates on road conditions in the Kinnaur Valley. If any of the roads anywhere is closed, I will share the word in this article.

Below is the status of the roads in Kinnaur Valley as of today. I have also posted the updates on the road between Chandigarh and Shimla which you will take to get to Kinnaur Valley.

Below is the status of the roads in Kinnaur Valley.

Shimla Road Status = Open

The route between Chandigarh to Shimla is open. After the recent snowfall in and around Shimla, some of the roads were temporarily blocked but then were soon reopened.

The condition of the road is a mix of good and average. There is road widening work happening on this route due to which, the traffic these days is slower than usual. But other than that, the condition of the road is mostly smooth.

Shimla to Narkanda Road Condition = Open

The road between Shimla to Narkanda is currently open and in good condition. Owing to the recent heavy snowfall all over the Himalayan region, the road was closed for a couple of days temporarily but was reopened shortly after. The entire drive between Shimla to Narkanda is a smooth one with almost no bad patches in between.

Narkanda to Reckong Peo Road = OPEN

The road between Narkanda and Reckong Peo is currently open and is a mix of good and average right now.

Sarahan Road Status = Open

The main road from Jeori to Sarahan was closed due to a bridge that collapsed 3 years ago but it is now operational. The road is good in condition but a little narrow.

Chitkul Road Status = Closed

The road between Karcham and Chitkul right now is closed. This route remains closed in the winter season after snow blocks the road entirely and opens by early April. Even when it is open, the road between Karchham to Sangla is a mix of average and bad but the road from Sangla to Chitkul is mostly bad.

Kalpa Road Status = OPEN

The road connecting Powari to Kalpa via Reckong Peo is currently open and is a mix of good and average. Please note that this entire climb is on a very narrow road and is very steep.

Reckong Peo to Pooh = OPEN

The stretch between Reckong to Pooh is open but is a mix of bad and average. This entire area is shooting-stone prone due to which the roads here keep getting damaged on a constant basis. You will always find repair work going on here.

Pooh to Khab = OPEN

Recong Peo to Poo and Poo to Khab road conditions have been improved and were quite nice on the whole, except for a handful of patches or wherever some construction is ongoing.

Khab to Nako = OPEN

The final climb from Khab Bridge to Nako is on magnificent Ka Loops and is a feast for the eyes. The road is currently open and in good condition as well.
